Burnsius albezens Grishin, 2022, commonly called the white checkered-skipper, was previously known under the scientific names Burnsius albescens and Pyrgus albescens. It is a species of skipper butterfly belonging to the family Hesperiidae. This species occurs at low altitudes in the southern United States, spanning from southern California, southern Arizona, southern New Mexico, and western and southern Texas to Florida, as well as across Mexico. It occurs only as a rare stray in southwest Utah and central Texas. It can be found in a wide range of dry, open habitat types. The wingspan of adult Burnsius albezens ranges from 25 to 38 mm. In most parts of the species' range, adults are active in flight year-round. Larvae are thought to feed on several species of plants in the family Malvaceae, including genera Sphaeralcea, Abutilon and Callirhoe. Adult butterflies feed on nectar from a variety of plant species.
