About Burmannia biflora L.

Burmannia biflora, commonly known as northern bluethread, is a plant species native to Cuba, the Bahamas, and the southeastern United States. It has also been reported from Puerto Rico, eastern Texas, Louisiana, southwestern Arkansas (specifically Hempstead County), southern Mississippi, southern Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, and southeastern Virginia. This species grows in wet habitats including bogs, swamps, ditches, and lake shores, at elevations below 100 meters. It is an annual herb that reaches up to 20 centimeters in height. Its flowers grow in a loose cyme that can hold up to 12 flowers; the flowers are blue with 3 wings, and sometimes have white edges.
