About Buphagus africanus Linnaeus, 1766

The yellow-billed oxpecker has the scientific name Buphagus africanus, first described by Linnaeus in 1766. It is a passerine bird belonging to the family Buphagidae. It was previously classified in Sturnidae, the family of starlings and mynas. This species is native to Sub-Saharan African savannahs, with a range extending from Senegal east to Sudan. It is least common in the extreme eastern part of its range, where its distribution overlaps with that of the red-billed oxpecker, even though the yellow-billed oxpecker always dominates red-billed oxpeckers during feeding.
