About Bulbinella cauda-felis (L.f.) T.Durand & Schinz
Bulbinella cauda-felis, commonly called "Cat’s Tail Bulbinella", is a plant species belonging to the family Asphodelaceae. It is widespread across the Cape Province of South Africa. This species prefers drier regions within renosterveld and karoo vegetation, growing in shale or clay soils. B. cauda-felis is a variable species that grows to just over half a meter in height. It produces up to 10 narrow leaves, measuring up to 750 mm in length and 9 mm in width. Its leaves have no marginal cilia or teeth, are typically bluish in colour, and feature a dilated sheath. Pinkish buds open into white flowers that each have a pink midrib; these flowers bloom from August to December, arranged on a long, narrowly-conical raceme. The seeds of this species measure 5mm, are large, and are nearly black. Its 5mm capsules are pale brown and fragile.
