About Buddleja crotonoides A.Gray
Buddleja crotonoides A.Gray grows as a large shrub or small tree, reaching less than 5 meters in height. Its main distinguishing feature is its large leaves, which grow up to less than 20 centimeters long, and are covered on both the upper and lower surfaces with dense, soft hairs. The species produces inflorescences less than 20 centimeters long, with individual flowers that are greenish-white or greenish-yellow. The ploidy of Buddleja crotonoides is 2n = 76, meaning it is a tetraploid. This species is uncommon in cultivation in the United Kingdom. Specimens are held as part of the NCCPG national collection at Longstock Park Nursery, near Stockbridge. While the species is not fully hardy in the UK, it can occasionally survive if given adequate frost protection, most effectively when grown in a pot and moved indoors when winter begins. It is rated for hardiness in USDA zone 9.
