About Buceros rhinoceros Linnaeus, 1758
The rhinoceros hornbill, scientifically named Buceros rhinoceros Linnaeus, 1758, is a large arboreal hornbill. It measures 80 to 90 cm (31โ35 in) in total length, with weight that differs between sexes: males weigh approximately 2,465 to 2,960 g (87.0โ104.4 oz), while females weigh 2,040 to 2,330 g (72โ82 oz). Most of its plumage is black, with white feathers on the legs and vent, and a white tail that has a single black band. Its large bill and casque are orange and red; this color comes from preen oil that the bird rubs on from the preen gland located above its tail. Male and female rhinoceros hornbills can be told apart by eye coloration: males have red eyes with black rims, and females have white eyes with red rims.
