About Brotogeris pyrrhoptera (Latham, 1802)
The grey-cheeked parakeet (Brotogeris pyrrhoptera) measures 19 to 20.5 cm (7.5 to 8.1 in) in length and weighs between 60 and 68 g (2.1 and 2.4 oz). Adult individuals are mostly green, with paler, yellower coloration on their underparts. They have a pale blue crown, pale ashy gray cheeks and sides of the neck, and a whitish eye ring and bill. Their primary coverts are deep blue, and their underwing coverts range from orange to orange-red. Immature grey-cheeked parakeets have green crowns instead of blue ones. This species is found from Manabí Province in western Ecuador south into extreme northwestern Peru, reaching as far as the northern part of the Department of Piura. It lives in a variety of landscapes, including deciduous forest, evergreen forest, more open woodlands, scrublands, and cultivated areas. Within its range, it occurs up to only 300 m (1,000 ft) in elevation in the north, and up to 1,550 m (5,100 ft) in elevation in the south.
