About Bromus sterilis L.
Bromus sterilis L. is an annual or biennial grass that reaches a maximum height of 20 to 90 centimeters. Its leaf blades measure 2–6 mm wide and 6–25 cm long, covered in short, soft hair. The grass's leaves are rough and hairy, ranging in color from green to purplish. The ligule is pointed, toothed, and grows 2 to 4 mm long. The inflorescence is a spreading, loose, open, nodding panicle, with lower sections drooping more than the upper sections. Spikelets reach up to 6 cm long, specifically between 4 and 6 cm long, they bear awns, and each produces 4 to 10 flowers. This species grows between sea level and 365 meters in elevation, found along roadsides and at the bases of hedges. It is a common weed of waste ground and gardens. It is native to northern Africa (Algeria, Morocco, and Tunisia); western and central Asia (Afghanistan, Cyprus, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan); the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and the Russian Federation in Ciscaucasia and Dagestan); and northern, central, eastern, and southeastern Europe (Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France including Corsica, Germany, Greece including Crete, Hungary, Ireland, Italy including Sardinia and Sicily, Moldova, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain including the Balearic Islands, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the former Yugoslavian states).
