About Breviceps rosei Power, 1926

Rose's rain frog (also written as Rose's rainfrog), with the scientific name Breviceps rosei Power, 1926, is a species of frog belonging to the family Brevicipitidae. This species is endemic to the sandveld region of south-western coastal South Africa. Less common alternative names for it include Rose's short-headed frog, Rose's Blaasop, and the sand rain frog. While some sources recognize Breviceps fasciatus as a synonym of Breviceps rosei, other taxonomic authorities disagree with this classification. Individuals of this species spend most of their lives in underground nests beneath sandy ground, where they also lay their eggs. They only come to the surface during heavy rain. Rose's rain frogs cannot swim, and they are never found in water. Their tadpoles develop fully inside the eggs, and hatch as completely developed baby frogs.
