About Brainea insignis (Hook.) J.Sm.

Brainea is a genus of ferns placed in the family Blechnaceae, subfamily Blechnoideae. According to the 2016 Pteridophyte Phylogeny Group classification (PPG I), this genus contains only one single species: Brainea insignis. The genus Brainea is accepted in a 2016 classification of the family Blechnaceae. Other taxonomic sources, however, merge the genus into a very broadly defined genus Blechnum, which matches the entire scope of the PPG I subfamily Blechnoideae.
