About Brachyscome ciliaris (Labill.) Less.
Brachyscome ciliaris is an upright or ascending perennial herb that grows up to 45 cm (18 in) tall. Its stems and foliage are usually smooth, and may occasionally bear woolly or soft glandular hairs. Its leaves can be linear, divided, or deeply lobed; they are narrow at the base and sessile, meaning they attach directly to the stem without a stalk. The species produces white or mauve flower heads that measure 7–15 mm (0.28–0.59 in) in diameter. Each flower head grows from a thread-like peduncle. Its bracts are green, pointed, jagged, and lance-shaped. Flowering can occur throughout the year. The fruit is a brown, oblong to egg-shaped, flattened achene that is 1.5–2.5 mm (0.059–0.098 in) long. This plant is very widely distributed across Australia, and occurs in every Australian state. Its habitat is somewhat restricted: it favours red earths and grey sands over limestone or clay, and grows in disturbed areas and on the margins of salt pans.
