About Brachyistius frenatus Gill, 1862

Brachyistius frenatus, commonly called the kelp perch, is a species of surfperch. It is native to the eastern Pacific Ocean, ranging from British Columbia, Canada to Baja California, Mexico. In this region, it lives in kelp forests at depths down to approximately 30 metres (98 feet). This fish is known to act as a cleaner fish. The maximum total length this species can reach is 22 centimetres (8.7 inches). Kelp perch are also displayed in public aquariums.
