About Brachmia blandella (Fabricius, 1798)

Brachmia blandella, commonly known as the gorse crest, is a moth species that belongs to the family Gelechiidae. This species can be found across most of Europe, with the exceptions of Ireland, Slovenia and Croatia. Its preferred habitats are woodland margins and heath. B. blandella has a wingspan that measures between 12 and 14 mm. Adult moths are active from June through August, and the species produces only one new generation each year. The larvae of Brachmia blandella feed exclusively on Ulex europaeus. The species overwinters in the form of a young larva, sheltered within a loose, light spinning structure on its host plant. Pupation of this species occurs in early June.
