About Bothus podas (Delaroche, 1809)

Bothus podas, commonly called the wide-eyed flounder, is a species of flounder belonging to the genus Bothus. It is native to the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic coast of Africa. During the reproductive season, males court and mate sequentially with multiple females that are located within the males' territories. Females of this species appear to display mating fidelity toward their dominant male. Existing data also indicates that courtship behavior plays an important role in determining whether a male will successfully mate.
