About Bosea yervamora L.
Bosea yervamora L. is a shrub native to the Canary Islands that grows up to 3 meters tall. It has slender, greenish branches. Its leaves can reach up to 7 cm in length, are shaped ovate to lanceolate, arranged alternately, have short stalks, and are hairless. Its flowers grow in indeterminate inflorescences that are short and terminal, growing from leaf axils. The flowers are greenish, and have two dry, membranous modified leaves at the base of the flower stem. The fruits are greenish black, and turn pink when ripe; they are roughly the size of a small pea.
For distribution, this species is locally common in Tenerife, particularly along the north coast in locations including Barranco Honda Santa Ursula, La Rambla, and Los Silos. On Gran Canaria, it occurs in the northern part of the island, in locations including Tafira, Moya, Agaete, and Bandama. On La Palma, it is distributed in the west coast region, in Tazacorte and Santa Cruz. On La Gomera, it grows in Barranco de la Villa, Agulo, and Vallehermoso, found on dry slopes in the lower elevation zone.
