About Bondarzewia kirkii J.A.Cooper, Jia J.Chen & B.K.Cui
Bondarzewia kirkii is a species of polypore fungus in the family Russulaceae, endemic to the beech forests of New Zealand. This species is named after British mycologist Paul Michael Kirk. B. kirkii is a parasitic fungus that produces fruiting bodies on the roots of beech trees across New Zealand. It appears to be long-lived, and fruits on mature trees. Collections of this species have only been made between January and March, which is significantly earlier in the year than the fruiting period of most other New Zealand macrofungi.
