About Boloria alaskensis (Holland, 1900)

Boloria alaskensis, commonly known as the mountain fritillary or Alaskan fritillary, is a species of fritillary butterfly that belongs to the family Nymphalidae. This species was first described by William Jacob Holland in 1900. Its geographic range includes North America and northern European Russia. The MONA (Moths of North America) and Hodges reference number for Boloria alaskensis is 4462. Caterpillars of this species feed on false bistort (Polygonum bistortoides) and alpine smartweed (P. viviparum). Boloria alaskensis is very similar in appearance to Boloria pales.
