About Bolbitis appendiculata (Willd.) K.Iwats.
Bolbitis appendiculata (Willd.) K.Iwats. is a lithophytic fern species that belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It occurs in evergreen forests, and has been recorded from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Borneo, Myanmar, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, Java, Malaysia, Philippines, Sumatra, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Its fronds are dimorphic: they are scaly on the lower surface and hairy on the upper surface. Sterile fronds have dark green, simply pinnate laminae that are oblong, stalked, and serrated. Pinnae are largest in the middle section of the lamina, and become smaller toward both ends. Fertile laminae are narrower than sterile laminae, elliptic in shape, with obtuse tips and unequal bases. Dark brown to black sporangia grow in an acrostichoid arrangement, covering almost the entire underside of the fertile leaf surface.
