About Boiga nigriceps (Günther, 1863)

Boiga nigriceps gets its common name from the greenish to blackish coloration of its head. Newly hatched and juvenile individuals do not develop this dark head coloration until they reach adulthood. The snake’s body color varies widely, ranging from brown, orange, and red to even black. Its ventral surface is yellowish below the neck, and white across the rest of the area. This species is distributed across Indonesia, Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, and Thailand. The black-headed cat snake is arboreal, but it frequently descends to the ground to search for prey. It occupies lowland and mid-elevation tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia.
