About Bohadschia vitiensis (Semper, 1868)

Bohadschia vitiensis is a species of sea cucumber belonging to the family Holothuriidae. It is commonly called the brown sandfish and the brown sea cucumber. This species has a widespread distribution across shallow waters of the Indo-Pacific region. Evidence suggests it is capable of hybridizing with another sea cucumber species, Bohadschia argus. Full-grown Bohadschia vitiensis can reach a total length of 50 cm (20 in), and adults have an average weight between 1,200 and 1,600 g (42 to 56 oz). The species is harvested commercially, and this harvesting activity has caused local population depletions.
