About Boechera holboellii (Hornem.) A.Löve & D.Löve
Boechera holboellii, commonly known as Holbøll's rockcress, is a plant species belonging to the mustard family Brassicaceae. Danish botanist Tyge W. Böcher conducted extensive research on the cytology of this species. The taxonomic circumscription of Boechera holboellii has changed over time: earlier botanical works considered it a widespread, polymorphic species with multiple distinct varieties, while modern treatments define it as a much more narrowly limited species native to Greenland. This plant is susceptible to infection by the rust fungus Puccinia monoica, which causes the plant to produce pseudoflowers. These pseudoflowers mimic the flowers of yellow early spring wildflowers such as buttercups, matching their appearance in both visible and ultraviolet light. The species' specific epithet honors Carl Peter Holbøll, a Danish civil servant and early explorer who studied Greenland's fauna.
