Blechnum occidentale L. is a fern species that belongs to the family Blechnaceae. Its native geographic range extends from Mexico, through Central America and the Caribbean, all the way to tropical South America. Two species previously recognized as distinct, Blechnum scaberulum and Blechnum sodiroi, are currently treated as synonyms of Blechnum occidentale.
