This species is found across most of Europe, and is absent from Fennoscandia, Latvia, Estonia, Ireland, and Iceland. Adult individuals have a wingspan ranging from 17 to 19 mm. The species likely produces one generation per year, with active adult moths on wing from the end of June to early August. The larvae of Blastobasis phycidella feed on decomposing oak wood from Quercus species, fallen pine needles, and dried fungus.
