Bistanta insects are slender and elongated, with heads that are relatively small compared to their bodies. All described species of Bistanta have coloration in shades of brown or tan, and are occasionally grayish. The genus is mostly found in Mexico, but its species have also been recorded in Central America, Arizona, Southern Texas, and some parts of New Mexico. The scientific name of the type species is Bistanta mexicana Saussure & Zehntner, 1894.
