Bibio articulatus (Say, 1823) is a species of march fly that belongs to the family Bibionidae. Its defining distinctive features are a dark exoskeleton that ranges in color from black to deep red, paired with red or orange legs. This march fly species is most commonly found in the United States, distributed across the region east of the Rocky Mountains extending all the way to the Atlantic coast. Bibio articulatus typically inhabits rotting trees, and feeds on plant leaves without causing significant damage to host plants. Individuals can also be found in loose soil while they go through their reproductive cycles.
