About Bernardia myricifolia (Scheele) S.Watson
Bernardia myricifolia (Scheele) S.Watson is a species of flowering plant in the spurge family. It has the common name mouse's eye, and is also called mouse ear, or oreja de ratón in Spanish. This plant is native to Texas, New Mexico, and Mexico, where it grows in shrub communities on rocky, limestone hills. It is a perennial shrub that reaches a maximum height of over three meters. Its small leaves are oval-shaped, growing up to three centimeters long, with scallop-shaped teeth along the edges. It is a dioecious species, meaning male and female individuals produce different types of flowers. Male flowers grow in small clustered staminate inflorescences, while female flowers grow singly on pistillate inflorescences. The fruit is a roughly rounded, woolly capsule with three prominent chambers, and each chamber holds one seed.
