About Beris chalybata (Forster, 1770)
This species measures 5.5โ5.8 mm in total length. For males: eyes are covered with hairs, with upper eye facets slightly larger than lower facets and a faintly visible dividing line between the two size groups. Antennae are black and short, shorter than the entire head; the annulated segment of the antenna is short and stubby. The thorax is dark metallic green, with long blackish brown pubescence. The abdomen is dull black, covered with blackish pubescence that is longer along the abdomen margins. The venter is brownish black and shining. Legs are predominantly yellow; coxae are brownish black; tarsi are brownish black except for their bases; hind metatarsi are yellow and strongly thickened, and the four most distal joints of the hind tarsi are also slightly dilated. Legs have fine yellowish pubescence. Wings are noticeably brownish with brownish veins, and the stigma is not conspicuous. Halteres are blackish brown. For females: the frons is broad, taking up one third of the total head width. Eyes have sparse, short hairs. The front is broad and black. The thorax is more distinctly greenish or bluish than the male thorax, with short pale brown pubescence. The abdomen is dark brown and shining. Wings are not brown, but distinctly yellowish with light brown veins, and the stigma is brown. Halteres are yellow.
