About Bena bicolorana (Füssly, 1775)

Technical description and variation: The forewings of Bena bicolorana are bright apple green. The costal edge is yellowish white, and the inner margin is narrowly white. The inner and outer lines are finely yellowish white, oblique, with the outer line positioned on the costa before the apex. The hindwing is white, and the fringe of both wings is white. In the newly described subspecies Bena bicolorana conspersa, collected from Amasia with a wing measurement of 53 m, the wing ground colour is blue green, densely covered with pale scales, and the costal edge and lines are white. The larva is green and smooth. The third body segment bears a dorsal hump with a yellow tip. The subdorsal and spiracular lines are yellow, and there are some pale yellow lateral stripes. The overall wingspan of Bena bicolorana ranges from 40 to 50 mm.
