It has been reported growing in Mexico, ranging from San Luis Potosí in the south to Chiapas. It is also found across all 7 countries of Central America, in the West Indies locations of Trinidad, the Dominican Republic and the Cayman Islands, in the South American countries of Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia, and in Dade County, Florida.
