Anatomy and morphology: As the common name implies, adult Belocaulus angustipes are typically black with a velvety appearance. Some juveniles of this species have a pale stripe running down the middle of their body. Distribution and habitat: Belocaulus angustipes is native to tropical regions of South America. It is also an established non-native species in northern Florida and other states along the Gulf Coast of the United States.
