Beilschmiedia miersii (Gay) Kosterm. is a tree that grows up to 25 meters (82 ft) in height, with a trunk diameter reaching 80 cm (31 in). Its trunk is straight and cylindrical, and its bark is gray-brown. Its leaves are simple, arranged opposite or subopposite on the stem, and shaped from ovate to ovate-elliptical. The leaf margins are entire and wavy; the upper leaf surface is dark and glossy, while the lower surface is glaucous. Leaf apex ranges from obtuse to emarginate, and leaf base ranges from obtuse to slightly subcordate. Leaves measure 4โ11 cm long and 1.5โ5 cm wide, with very pubescent petioles 5โ10 mm long. The flowers are hermaphrodite, borne in inflorescences 3โ10 cm long, with pedicels 2โ5 mm long. Flowers are yellow-green, with pubescent, fleshy tepals, and the style ends in a papillose, obtuse stigma. The ripe fruit is a brown drupe. In central Chile, this species is used as an ornamental, and its ripe fruit is sometimes used for pig feed. It has also been planted and successfully acclimatized in Spain.
