About Begonia obliqua L.

Begonia obliqua L. is the type species of the genus Begonia. It was the first species that Plumier assigned to the genus name Begonia. This species is native to Martinique, Dominica, and Guadeloupe. Historically, the name Begonia obliqua has been incorrectly used for other species: Thunberg misapplied it to Begonia grandis, L'Héritier misapplied it to Begonia minor, and Vellozo misapplied it to Begonia fischeri.
