Bedellia somnulentella (Zeller, 1847) has a wingspan ranging from 8 to 10 mm. The larvae of this species feed on a range of host plants: Calystegia pubescens, Calystegia sepium, Convolvulus althaeoides, Convolvulus arvensis, Convolvulus siculus, Convolvulus tricolour, Ipomoea batatas, and Ipomoea purpurea. The larvae create mines within the leaves of their host plants. This species is originally native to Asia, where its food plants naturally occur. It has since achieved a nearly cosmopolitan distribution, and has been recorded in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, southern Kazakhstan, Kirgizia, Uzbekistan, almost all of Europe, the Middle East, Africa, India, Japan, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and Oceania.
