About Battus laodamas (Felder & Felder, 1859)
Battus laodamas, originally described by Felder & Felder in 1859, is a butterfly species with a wingspan of approximately 90 millimetres, or 3.5 inches. Its base body color is black or dark brown, with green iridescent reflections. On the dorsal (upper) side of the hindwings, there is a broad cream or pale green band, along with a row of cream or pale green spots. The underside of the wings is a lighter brown: the forewings have a submarginal line of whitish spots, while the hindwings have a submarginal line of red markings. The apex of the forewings is rounded, and the outer edge of the hindwings has a scalloped shape. The known host plant for Battus laodamas caterpillars is Aristolochia tentaculata. This species is native to the Neotropical realm, and can be found in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Venezuela.
