About Batrachomoeus dubius (White, 1790)
Batrachomoeus dubius, commonly called the eastern frogfish, has a flattened head and a wide mouth bordered by a distinct fleshy "beard". Its body color ranges from mottled brown to pale grey or bluish-grey, with two broad bands and scattered splotches across its body. Juvenile eastern frogfish are paler than adults and also have broad bands. This species reaches a maximum total length of 35 centimeters.
Eastern frogfish live at depths between 1 and 150 meters. They can be found along the continental shelf, as well as in estuaries and on inshore reefs. They are rarely spotted out in the open, and shelter on rocky reefs, among seaweed, under rocks, and inside underwater caves.
