About Batis erlangeri Neumann, 1907

The western black-headed batis (scientific name Batis erlangeri Neumann, 1907), also known as Von Erlanger's batis, is a species of passerine bird in the wattle-eye family Platysteiridae. It occurs across a large area of central Africa. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, and moist savanna. This species was previously classified as the same species as the eastern black-headed batis (Batis minor). Two subspecies of Batis erlangeri are currently recognised: B. e. erlangeri Neumann, 1907, which ranges from northern Cameroon to Ethiopia, and south to Uganda, western Kenya, and Burundi; and B. e. congoensis Neumann, 1907, which is found in southern Congo, southwestern Democratic Republic of the Congo, and western Angola.
