Batillaria attramentaria (G.B.Sowerby II, 1855) has a shell that varies in size and color. The shell is pointed, grows to 20-30 millimeters in height, and has 8-10 whorls. This species is native to the region stretching from the Kuril Islands and southern Sakhalin, Russia, south to Hong Kong. It has been introduced to North America, where its current range extends from Boundary Bay, British Columbia, Canada, south to Elkhorn Slough, Monterey, California, USA.
