About Bathygobius fuscus (Rüppell, 1830)
The dusky frillgoby, whose scientific name is Bathygobius fuscus, is also commonly called the brown frillfin. It is a species of goby native to the Indo-Pacific region. Its distribution ranges from South Africa northward to the Red Sea, eastward as far as Tonga, southward to Australia, and northward to Japan. This is primarily a coastal species, but it has an amphidromous life cycle. It lives in estuaries, and will move into freshwater streams. In estuarine areas, it is found mainly in creeks, and prefers environments with sand and rubble, soft coral, and open reefs. It feeds on detritus, crustaceans, fish, and algae. It is a benthic spawner. The species reaches a maximum total length of 12 centimetres, or 4.7 inches.
