About Basiothia medea Fabricius, 1781
Basiothia medea, commonly called the small verdant hawk, is a moth species belonging to the family Sphingidae. It is common across open habitats throughout the entire Ethiopian Region, and this range includes Madagascar. The species is probably not present in the equatorial forest belt, except when it occurs there as a vagrant individual. Basiothia medea is an active migrant. For this species, forewings measure 22–25 mm in length, and the total wingspan ranges from 49–63 mm. The larvae of Basiothia medea feed on species from the genera Spermacoce natalensis, Dioda, Spermacoce, Pentas and Pentasinia.
