About Barycholos ternetzi (Miranda-Ribeiro, 1937)

Barycholos ternetzi is a frog species belonging to the family Strabomantidae. It is endemic to the Cerrado region of central Brazil. Its natural habitats are gallery forest and open areas within the Cerrado, and it lives in leaf-litter. This common species is currently declining in population. It is threatened by habitat loss from multiple sources: agriculture, logging, agricultural pollution, fires, and dam construction. Four distinct vocalization types have been identified for this species. The advertisement call is the most common. An aggressive call is produced in response to another male that is nearby or a neighboring male. A distress call is released when a male is found or caught. A fighting call is emitted during physical interactions between individuals.
