About Barleria obtusa Nees
Barleria obtusa, commonly known as the bush violet, is a flowering plant species belonging to the family Acanthaceae. It grows naturally along forest margins in the summer rainfall area of South Africa, specifically in the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Northern Provinces, and also occurs in Mozambique. This species is widely cultivated for use as an ornamental garden shrub. In tropical Africa, its leaves are cooked and eaten as a vegetable, and the whole plant is also used for medicinal purposes.
