About Barbodes lateristriga (Valenciennes, 1842)

Barbodes lateristriga (Valenciennes, 1842), commonly known as the spanner barb or T-barb, is a cyprinid fish species native to the Malay Peninsula and the island of Borneo. It is also sold in the aquarium trade. This species reaches a maximum total length of 18 centimetres (7.1 in).

Spanner barbs live in clear mountain streams, and are especially common at the base of waterfalls. They prefer habitats with many boulders and rocky stream beds.

When reproducing, spanner barbs scatter their eggs into the stream substrate and then abandon the eggs.
