Baptisia lanceolata (Walter) Elliott, commonly known as gopherweed, is a species of flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae. It is native to the U.S. states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. This is a perennial plant that grows up to 3 feet, or 1 meter, tall. It grows in dry sandy habitats, including the Carolina sand hills, and open pine woodlands such as the longleaf pine ecosystem. It produces bright yellow pea-shaped flowers that attract insect pollinators including bees. The Latin specific epithet lanceolata refers to the shape of its leaves.
