About Banasa dimidiata
Banasa dimidiata is a species of stink bug in the family Pentatomidae, with the distinctive shield-shaped body that characterizes this insect family. Adult individuals of this species range in size from 8.5 mm to 11.0 mm. The species' primary body color is vibrant green, which allows it to blend into surrounding foliage. The lower portions of its wings and the rear of its body have a burgundy-brown hue. The transition between the green and burgundy-brown sections is usually smooth, and can sometimes look slightly iridescent. Its legs are the same matching green as its main body. Its long antennae end in a reddish-brown color. Its small, round, dark eyes are positioned on the sides of its head. The exoskeleton has a smooth texture with a slight sheen, giving it a somewhat glossy appearance in bright light. This species has a transcontinental range. In Canada, it occurs from British Columbia east to Nova Scotia. In the United States, its range extends south through the country from California to Texas to Florida, and it also reaches into Mexico. Banasa dimidiata is most commonly observed between April and October, with the highest number of observations occurring in June and July. It is a plant-feeding species that can be found on a wide variety of trees and shrubs, and is often found on berries, especially blueberries.
