About Balsamorhiza careyana A.Gray

Balsamorhiza careyana A.Gray is a species of flowering plant in the Heliantheae tribe of the Asteraceae family, commonly known as Carey's balsamroot. It is native to Washington and Oregon in the northwestern United States, where it grows in arid and desert regions east of the Cascade Range. It is very similar to its close relative Balsamorhiza sagittata. However, its leaves have a texture more like fine sandpaper, rather than the soft, hairy texture of Balsamorhiza sagittata leaves. Its involucre, the structure formed by the flower bracts, is less densely wooly, and it is likely more resistant to drought.
