About Balaenoptera edeni brydei Olsen, 1913
Several anatomical differences exist between Bryde's whales (Balaenoptera edeni brydei Olsen, 1913) and Eden's whales, but morphological similarities between the two have led to confusion in species identification. For reproduction and nurturing, Bryde's whales breed every other year. Breeding can occur in any season, though it reaches a peak in autumn. The gestation period of Bryde's whales is estimated to be 12 months. At birth, calves measure 3.4–4.0 m (11–13 ft) in length and weigh 1,000 kg (2,200 lb). Bryde's whales reach sexual maturity at 8–13 years of age, when females are 12 m (39 ft) long. Mothers nurse their calves for 6–12 months.
