About Baeolidia australis (Rudman, 1982)

Baeolidia australis can be distinguished from the related species Baeolidia moebii by several consistent features. On each of its cerata, Baeolidia australis has a thin orange band just below the tip, positioned above a broad blue band; this combination of bands is never present in Baeolidia moebii. Overall, Baeolidia australis has a bluish appearance, while Baeolidia moebii tends to be more yellow or brown in color. The body of Baeolidia australis also has a brown and white net-like (reticulate) pattern that does not occur in Baeolidia moebii. This species was first described based on specimens collected from Long Reef, Sydney, Australia. It has been reported from South Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales in Australia, as well as from northern New Zealand.
