About Bactra lancealana (Hübner, 1796-1799)

Bactra lancealana is a species of moth belonging to the family Tortricidae that occurs in Europe. This moth has a wingspan ranging from 11 to 20 mm. Its forewings are pale ochreous or ochreous-brownish; the costa has fine strigulations of darker ochreous or dark fuscous. A small spot in the disc at one-third of the wing length, and an angular mark beyond the middle of the wing, are dark fuscous. These markings are often obsolete, but may sometimes form a more or less complete dark median streak running from the base to the apex of the wing. A central fascia is sometimes visible on the costa. The hindwings of Bactra lancealana are grey. The larvae are greenish or whitish-flesh colored, with a black head and a black second thoracic plate. This species is very similar in appearance to Bactra furfurana. Adult moths of Bactra lancealana fly from May to October. The larvae of this species feed primarily on various types of rushes, including species from the genera Juncus and Scirpus.
