About Babakina anadoni (Ortea, 1979)

Babakina anadoni is a multicolored species that reaches a maximum length of 2 centimeters. The base body color is a shade of purple. Its chemosensory rhinophores and cerata, the structures that cover its body surface, have contrasting shades of purple alongside other colors including blue, white, yellow, and pink.

This species occurs in warm Atlantic waters. Confirmed locations include the west coast of Spain, the Canary Islands, Portugal’s coastlines, and rarely southern France. It has also been recorded in eastern Atlantic waters around The Bahamas, the French Caribbean, and the coast of Brazil. There are also records of the species from temperate Atlantic waters outside its typical range. In 2022, one individual was discovered off the Isles of Scilly, United Kingdom, further north than its usual distribution. A second individual was found even further north, in a rock pool at Falmouth, Cornwall, in May 2023.
