About Avicularia rufa Schiapelli & Gerschman, 1945

Mature Avicularia rufa have brown carapaces covered in short golden setae (hairs) that carry a slight purple sheen. On female individuals, long greyish brown hairs are present on the front of the dorsal (upper) abdominal surface and the abdomen sides; on males, these longer hairs are evenly distributed across the abdomen. Both sexes have legs and palps that bear two types of hairs: short brown hairs with a pink sheen, and long brown hairs with darker bases and whitish tips. The ends of the leg femora, tibiae, and metatarsi that are furthest from the body have distinct vivid yellow rings.
